Week 2

  1. What did you learn this week?
This week, I learned about the 8 characterisitics of life.
    -Made of Cells
    - Living things produce energy (Metabolism)
    - respond to environment/stimuli
    - maintain homeostatis
    - genetic information
    - movement
    - reproduction
    - growth and change

2. How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
I can apply what I learned this week in the future by teaching my students what the 8 characterstics of life are. I think it is a great reminder to go over these at the beginging of the year since these are a basis for biology and it explains why we do/what we are/why we respond/live, within our environement.

3. What are new or remaining questions?
After learning about NGSS, a question I have is how to implement these standards in a school district that may not have them? I think these stanards are clearly stated and will help my future students learn science and make it more enjoyable.

week 10 science 2

The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. In lab we discussed how we decide if something is a rock.  - coal, hardended lava, limestone, gravestone, iron ore, marble statue, and granite.  we also discussed the importance of how to asses our students as well as how to create activities that are relavent to their questions and prior knowledge  we also discussed the layers of the earth - core (heat), mantle, crust (tectonic plates)  when tectonic plates collide they can create mountains, if land and water plate tectonic occur one goes on top of the other  igneous rocks- when magma cools sedimentary - compaction and cementation (squished together)  metamorphic - heat and pressure  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. Earthquakes Plate tectonics  Continental  Ticker, stick up above the water  Averages 20-30 miles thick  Oceanic   In the ocean basin  10 miles thick ...

week 11 science 2

The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. We started lab having small and whole group discussion about formative assessments and teaching students based off of their questions. Next, we did an activity to determine 'who came first' which translates to how we are currently learning about things in earths history that occured first. We did an invesigation to determine what came fist in the principle of superposition.  - rocks form layers that become buried under more layers over time, the deeper we dig, the farther back in time we see. Fossils found deeper and deeper mean it gets older and older.  We also looked at the layers of earth.  1. sandstone  2. mudstone  3. limestone 4. volcanic ash  5. granite (shifts up, lead to fault line)  sand created through water is polished, smooth, similar in size  glaciers, polished, smooth, irregualr in size  wind  A description of what you learned in Thursda...

week 8 science 2

The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. We presented our presentations today, here are some notes from each presentation  origin of the universe  big bang theory'  the universe is exapnding and has no center  stars formed 200 million years after    Life cycle of Stars  stars are not the same size, giant, dwarf, super giant stars are constantly moving  stars are all diferent colors ( misconceptions is stars are only yellow) 7 stages  giant-gas clod protostar  T-tauri phase  main phase  red giant - temp cools down  elemental fusion  supernova/white dwarf  Origin of the Earth  evidence that earth was formed before the Big Bang  formed slowly through many collisons  earths surface has changed over time  Black Holes  light was dedected in black holes vary in sizes depedning on mass  radiation escapes black holes  so dense gravity lays below  ...
